Marconova

Marconova is a company that has long experience in maritime drug testing. We help companies and organisations of all sizes to create a drug-free workplace at sea, locally or globally.

We are proud to be able to contribute to preventing substance abuse and thereby making the workplace safer. It is our aim for customers to feel comfortable working with Marconova. It is therefore essential that we also live by our watchwords: quality, safety and competence.

Since 2007 Marconova has been a part of the group Concateno PLC. The fact that we have constantly worked seriously with drug testing and the prevention of substance abuse in the workplace has led to multinational partners taking a step closer to us.

We are now one of seven companies in the Concateno group. This also gives us the opportunity to use different drug testing methods in the future as well as a larger international exchange and improvement.

History

One of the reasons that caused Marconova to see the light of day was the grounding of Exxon Valdez off the coast of Alaska in 1989.

Approximately 42 000 tons of crude oil leaked out and caused an environmental catastrophe that we probably have not seen the full scope of yet. The legal consequence established that one of the causes of the accident was that the captain of the ship had had a few too many drinks and was not on the bridge at the time of the collision.

As part of the development towards safer transport Exxon created an alcohol and drugs policy for its fleet of tankers in which compulsory drug tests were included. Several shipping companies followed suit and soon the demand for drug testing at sea was so great that Captain Anders Jakobsson saw the need for drug testing in the maritime industry. In 1995 he therefore created the embryo of the Marconova we see today.
